Nate Diaz reveals why Conor McGregor had no option but to tap out at UFC 196

Nate Diaz just does not get it.

The UFC lightweight contender dispatched of Conor McGregor two weeks ago in Las Vegas at UFC 196, but one thing is still bugging him. The Stockton native got the better of the 27-year-old with a reverse choke, but after the fight, there was more debate about whether McGregor should have tapped out or not than Diaz’ win. The Irishman's loss came just minutes after Holly Holm thought better to go unconscious rather than submit to her opponent, Miesha Tate. Diaz, speaking to MMA Junkie, feels that people who have criticised the UFC featherweight champion for tapping out have no idea what they are talking about.

"If you’ve got to tap out, you’ve got to tap out I think Holly, she thought she was maybe going to get out. She had already gotten out of one and she thought, ‘I’m not quitting.’ "McGregor, he was f**king done. All the way done. It’s all right. He had to tap out because there was no getting out of that. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with tapping out.”

Diaz's powerful boxing, as well as strong ground game, was the ultimate factor in beating McGregor two weeks ago. He is likely to now move on to a title shot against Rafael dos Anjos while the Drimnagh native may switch move back down to featherweight after his first ever UFC loss. Diaz feels that the Irishman should not be any way embarrassed at tasting defeat for the first time. Instead, he should never have gotten in the position to be submitted in the first place.

"It’s a fight against the best fighters in the world; you’ve got to tap to that. “You ain’t getting out of it. You can tap out, or you can go to sleep. You tap out if you’re caught. The thing is, that’s what I think, is don’t get caught.”
