“Guys, that makes a lot of sense. It really does make a lot of sense. Boo me, yes. That makes a lot of sense.”https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/724346950191968256?lang=en Sure, Cormier only holds the belt because Jones messed everything up for himself outside of the cage, but you can hardly blame him for that. He also pulled out of UFC 197 on short notice, but this marked the first time in his professional career that he's ever withdrawn from a fight. The guy just can't seem to catch a break at the moment, and one man who's certainly not going to cut him some slack is legendary UFC and Pride fighter Don Frye.
Speaking to Submission Radio, Frye was very critical of one aspect of Cormier's game which has nothing to do with the fighting itself - his trash talk acumen.
"Oh my God, it will be the same thing. It will be the same thing. Cormier is the most overrated, underperforming, worthless trash talker I've ever heard. And he sounds like one of the Cosby kids -- just "bedee-bedee-bedee-bedee." You can't understand a damn thing he's saying. You know?"Being one of the more well-spoken fighters on the UFC roster, Cormier makes regular appearances on UFC Tonight, has featured on panels for UFC cards and most recently, he provided the official commentary for UFC 197's main event between Jones and OSP. However, it isn't just Cormier's inability to speak clearly that Frye took issue with, but also his tendency to use repetition... and that his training isn't up to scratch.
"And he keeps repeating the same stuff and he's not producing anything. And I don't know what the hell's going on up there at AKA, but you know, either get a new trainer or new training partners or sparring partners. You know, they're all getting hurt. Geez, they gotta do something differently and be smart enough to protect their fighters or they're all going to starve to death."Safe to say he won't be backing Cormier at UFC 200 so.
