Absolutely tragic news.
Irish rally driver Craig Breen has passed away in Croatia, today, after an accident in a pre-event test for the Croatia Rally.
The 33-year-old was preparing for his second outing of the WRC season as Hyundai’s third driver. Only back in February, Breen had a second place finish at Rally Sweden. It was his joint best WRC finish ever, to go with other second places he secured in four races between 2020 and 2021.
It has been reported,
by Motorsport, that Breen 'went off the road during a team test on asphalt roads today and succumbed to injuries'. Co-driver James Fulton was unharmed in the incident.
Hyundai confirmed the news with the following statement:
“Hyundai Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that driver Craig Breen today lost his life following an accident during the pre-event test for Croatia Rally,"
“Co-driver James Fulton was unharmed in the incident that occurred just after midday local time.
“Hyundai Motorsport sends its sincerest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and his many fans. Hyundai Motorsport will make no further comment at this time.”

WRC statement on passing of Craig Breen
The World Rally Championship also released a statement, saying, "The WRC family is shocked and saddened to learn of Craig Breen's passing.
"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Craig at this incredibly sad time."
