CONFIRMED: Ian Madigan has officially signed for Pat Lam’s Bristol

The former Leinster out-half has signed a three-year contract.

All the speculation surrounding Ian Madigan future has finally been put to rest. The 27-year-old will arrive in Bristol to join up with new head coach, Pat Lam, in the summer after completing just one season with Bordeaux Begles in the Top 14. Madigan recently stated in an interview with SportsJOE a few weeks ago that returning to Leinster wold have been his preference after seemingly falling out with the Bordeaux club's hierarchy. There had been numerous rumours about his eventual destination, with a number of English clubs reportedly after his signature. One of which was the Northampton Saints. https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/836341141058498560 Madigan now looks likely to be playing his rugby in England's second tier next season as Bristol look destined for relegation. Madigan had this to say about his newly announced move.

"The opportunity to come to England and prove myself here is one that I relish. Bristol Rugby has a clear vision for what they want to achieve and the club’s philosophy match my own ambitions," Madigan told the club's official website.  “I know the expansive style of rugby that Pat [Lam] and his coaching team want to play and that excites me. I was so impressed with the vision that was laid out to me, it made it an easy decision to commit to Bristol. “The culture that the club are building, coupled with a city that loves its rugby, is something that really appeals to me. I’m looking forward to representing Bristol in front of the passionate supporters at Ashton Gate.”

Current Head Coach Mark Tainton also had this to say about the club's new signing.

"Ian is a player we have been looking at for a while. It’s been no secret that we were seeking a world-class fly half and – with his age profile and experience - Ian fits the bill perfectly. “He has bought into what we are trying to achieve here. Ian has chosen to commit for three years and we’re delighted to have secured his services with a number of high-profile clubs interested in him."

With Madigan set to continue his career outside of Ireland, we may not see him wear the green of Ireland for a number of years yet.
