Now, with the Rugby World Cup drawing near, it is Cardiff's turn.
The Welsh capital will be as close to crammed as a Tokyo subway carriage once the World Cup comes to town, in September, and, as a result, prices are skyrocketing.
Many of the city's major hotels are booked out and dorm rooms in some hostels are going for £100 [approximately €141] per night.
