Play continued for a few moments before Barnes called a halt so Beirne could get some medical attention.
The Kildare native tried to play on but only last two more minutes. During that time, he was subjected to a crunching Richie Arnold tackle that left him wincing.
Tadhg Beirne was replaced by Billy Holland as Munster went into the 'Home' changing room 16-9 up, at half-time.
The first half had seen Munster rallying superbly after falling 6-3 behind to a massively fired up Toulouse. Both Damian De Allende and Keith Earls were in their element on a sunny day in Limerick.
