Tadhg Furlong praised for ‘dark arts’ in cracking Garry Ringrose score

It certainly looked as if he knew what he was doing.

First off, what a score from Garry Ringrose. Second off, Tadhg Furlong played this one well. Leinster came to Galway on Saturday evening and they were determined to, in the words of Johnny Sexton, avenge their 42-10 "humiliation" last season. Connacht went 3-0 ahead, thanks to Jack Carty, but Leinster dropped the hammer soon after with a flood of relentless attacks. Connacht defended well but the visitors went in 6-3 at the break and keen to push on in the second half. Andy Friend would have readied his men for a storm but it did little good. Within 45 seconds Leinster had breached their lines. Taking a pass from Sexton in midfield, Ringrose cut back hard left. He glided past Denis Buckley and Connacht flanker Sean O'Brien was outfoxed. Furlong did the rest (pictured below) as he formed a nice screen in front of the scrambling Connacht locks Quinn Roux and Ultan Dillane. That gap was enough incentive for Ringrose as he powered home from 25 metres out. Over in Galway for TG4, Mike McCarthy said: "If you look at Tadhg Furlong there, he knows exactly what he is doing. He is creating a block so there's a bit of a disconnect between the defenders (Roux and Dillane)."
