It's understood that six young supporters began throwing stones at Rakitic's villa in Ugljan, smashing its windows before they broke down the front door.
Rakitic and his family managed to escape but it makes for concerning reading.
Just a fortnight ago, Croatia supporters drew Uefa's ire after the unseemly scenes that marred the country's 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic in the group stage of Euro 2016.

That incident was followed by the worrying rumour that a group of Croatia fans were planning an attack on the referee in their final group game with Spain.
Information leaked prior to kick-off that a violent pitch invasion was planned for the 30th minute but, thankfully, the rumoured attack never took place as a heavy police presence at the Croatia end of the ground meant that it would have been all but impossible for someone to take the field.
