The newspaper report that Carrick had offers from the MLS and China's Super League, with Premier League clubs 'also interested'.
His current contract expires on June 30 and no new deal was sanctioned while uncertainty existed over the future of former boss Louis van Gaal. It is thought, however, that the Dutchman would have kept Carrick at the club had he remained.
Moran Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Bastian Schweinsteiger all partnered Carrick in centre midfield last season. Daley Blind can also play in that position.
Doubts exist, however, over the futures of Fellaini, Mata and, as recently as a Sky Sports report this morning, Blind.
Keeping Carrick for Mourinho's first season in charge would make sense.
