The ever controversial Diego Costa - who was just inches away from giving his team the lead earlier in the game - saw red after he appeared to attempt a bite on Everton midfielder Gareth Barry.
The Brazilian-born forward had picked up an early yellow card, and received his second after the incident as Chelsea went on to lose the tie 2-0.
