If he pulled this off, it would have been legendary
Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the greatest players to have ever graced a football pitch. The Portuguese maestro is a shoo-in to win this year's Ballon d'Or after an outstanding 2014 which included winning a plethora of trophies, finishing top scorer in La Liga/Champions League/pretty much every tournament he was involved in and breaking all sorts of goal-scoring records.
However, there is a point where a player is so skillful, that it might actually hinder their decision-making abilities.
Take Real's 4-0 mauling of Cruz Azul in the Club World Cup tonight. The sharpshooter made a fantastic run and found himself with acres of space inside the box. The beautifully-weighted cross landed practically on his toes but, not being content with attempting a bog-standard left-footed volley, Ronaldo went for the flamboyant option and attempted a rabona half-volley.
While Los Blancos were 3-0 up at the time and another goal wouldn't have made all that much of a difference, Ronaldo is one of a handful of players who would attempt such an outrageous shot in this scenario. The scary thing is, it wasn't a bad effort. He found the target with decent power.
