I think the manager trusts me... I think the manager trusts me... I THINK THE MANAGER TRUSTS ME!
Marouane Fellaini's interview about Jose Mourinho was just a masterclass in fate-tempting.
The Manchester United midfielder insisted that he wanted to fight for his place under his new manager but his showing in the Community Shield won't exactly have made his the first name on Mourinho's teamsheet.
Fellaini had all the time in the world when he intercepted a pass intended for Jamie Vardy on Sunday.
Facing his own goal, the Belgian could have played a reverse pass for Jesse Lingard. Or he could have sent it across to Luke Shaw, who was in plenty of space. Or he could have put a bit of pace on the ball and guided it back to his 'keeper.
But Fellaini felt the best option was to nudge the ball towards the vast space that Vardy had begun sprinting into, making it impossible for David De Gea to reach it.
You know the rest!
