Colon, batting for the 226th time in his career, finally cleared the fence, helping the Mets to a 6-3 win in California, becoming the oldest player in MLB history to hit the first home run of his career.
"I don't know how to explain it," the man from the Dominican Republic said after the game. "One I hit it, I knew it was gone."
Colon, who weighs over 20 stone, broke the record of Randy Jackson, who hit his first homer aged 40 when playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2003.
