One of the worst crashes in Tour De France history
An overly-eager fan has caused one of the worst crashes in the history of the Tour De France after leaning out into the road with a cardboard sign.
From the footage posted to social media, the fan can be seen holding up a cardboard sign with ‘Allez Opi-Omi!’ written on it in black pen.
The fan was looking straight at the TV camera on the passing bike, rather than concentrating on the actual race.

The crash is being called one of the worst in Tour De France history, with what felt like a mountain of bodies and bikes piled up in the narrow road in the middle of the race.

Many of the cyclists did return to the race, but it is unclear at this time whether there have been any serious injuries.
Stage 1 was won by Julian Alaphilippe of Deceuninck–Quick-Step and the world champion will roll out tomorrow in the Yellow Jersey.
