Who let this guy behind the wheel
If you're driving a team car during a cycle race then you'd think that you'd be absolutely glued to your mirrors to know where the various cyclists are around you. Team cars drivers usually have to almost have a few sets of eyes as they dodge and weave their way through traffic with spare parts and instructions for their riders. If they lose concentration for one second it can result in disaster. And that's exactly what happened today at the Tour of Flanders. Twice.
The race was won by Irishman Matt Brammeier who won his weight in beer for his success but the day was overshadowed by two incidents involving two Shimano neutral service cars.
The first incident saw race leader at the time Jesse Sergent sideswiped by a teammcar after it swerved to avoid a kerb. The rider was the leader of the race at the time and the car was trying to get ahead of the Kiwi and his breakaway group.
Sergent suffered a broken collarbone for his trouble but it could have been a whole lot worse. However over 30 minutes later there was another incident with a Shimano service car when Sébastien Chavanel was knocked off his bike after a collision involving his team carand the service vehicle. However he was a little luckier than his fellow cyclist and sustained no serious injury.
