Here’s how the Danish media reacted to Ireland’s crushing loss

There's one episode called Morty's Mindblowers where mad scientist Rick tells grandson, Morty, he has been erasing a lot of his bad memories. Wouldn't it be great if we could all have that option for last night? Nobody needs to relive the 5-1 mauling that was inflicted on Ireland. It's easy to see how the Irish reacted, our newsfeeds have been filled with reaction to the heartbreaking loss but how did the the Danish react? Well, CPH Post decided to poke fun at the strength and depth of Ireland's squad and, in particular, the half-time substitution of Aiden McGeady and Wes Hoolahan:

"If any one moment summed up the gulf in class, it was the home side’s double substitution at half-time. "In the 1994 World Cup trailing 0-2 to the Netherlands, they were able to call on the likes of Jason McAteer and Tony ‘I once had an Irish wolfhound’ Cascarino from the bench. "Tonight, again needing two goals to save the game, they threw on Aiden McGeady of Sunderland and Wes Hoolahan of Norwich City – two players at English Championship sides, the division that national coach Martin O’Neill recruits over half his squad from. "History has shown you can win the English Premier League with kids, but you certainly can’t win the World Cup with a team from the English Championship."

It just feels like they are rubbing salt into the wounds, poor Wes is getting a raw deal there but it's nice to know that not all Danes just view him as a Championship player because The Local did stand up for him:

"O'Neill, who had already agreed a new contract to lead Ireland into the qualifiers for the 2020 European Championship, will ship criticism for again selecting his team without the craft of Wes Hoolahan. The 35-year-old, one of four Ireland players likely to retire from international football, was only introduced at the interval with Ireland needing three goals to redeem their cause."
